CHOBE

Chobe is a self-taught muralist and graffiti artist from Guadalajara, Jalisco, born around 1993. He came up through the streets. In his own words, he had a difficult youth: he was in a gang, he was a street kid, and he practiced illegal graffiti. Then one day, he realized he could take the drawings from his notebook and put them on the wall with spray paint. From that moment, he couldn't stop. He ate, slept, and breathed graffiti.

Chobe es un muralista y grafitero autodidacta de Guadalajara, Jalisco, nacido alrededor de 1993. Se formó en las calles. En sus propias palabras, tuvo una juventud difícil: estuvo en una pandilla, era callejero, y practicaba el grafiti ilegal. Un día se dio cuenta de que podía hacer sus dibujos del cuaderno con spray en la pared. Desde ese momento, no pudo parar. Desayunaba, comía y cenaba grafiti.

He has no formal art education, and he'll tell you that directly. Everything he's built has come through constancy, practice, and refusing to stay in his comfort zone, always pushing himself toward harder challenges and new techniques. Over more than fifteen years, that discipline has paid off. His murals are bold, vibrant, and steeped in Mexican mythology, history, and social commentary.

No tiene educación artística formal, y te lo dice directamente. Todo lo que ha construido ha sido a base de constancia, práctica y nunca estar en zona de confort, siempre imponiéndose retos nuevos y cosas más difíciles. A lo largo de más de quince años, esa disciplina ha dado frutos. Sus murales son audaces, vibrantes y están impregnados de mitología mexicana, historia y comentario social.

In October 2022, Chobe participated in "GuadalajArt," a public art initiative supported by the Guadalajara city government and Juventudes Guadalajara. For the program, he painted "Folclor," a four-by-four-meter mural on Paseo Alcalde in downtown Guadalajara, between Garibaldi and Joaquín Angulo streets. The mural features a pair of ballet folklórico dancers, inspired by the month of patriotic celebrations and Jalisco's cultural identity. The work was officially presented alongside then-Mayor Pablo Lemus. His collaborators include artists Stek VRS, Eksen One, and Jazor VRS.

En octubre de 2022, Chobe participó en "GuadalajArt," una iniciativa de arte público apoyada por el gobierno de Guadalajara y Juventudes Guadalajara. Para el programa, pintó "Folclor," un mural de cuatro por cuatro metros en el Paseo Alcalde en el centro de Guadalajara, entre las calles Garibaldi y Joaquín Angulo. El mural presenta a una pareja de bailarines de ballet folklórico, inspirado en el mes de celebraciones patrias y la identidad cultural de Jalisco. La obra fue presentada oficialmente junto al entonces alcalde Pablo Lemus. Sus colaboradores incluyen a los artistas Stek VRS, Eksen One y Jazor VRS.
